A smile which was hiding many painful truths. The Truth that her husband was wiping out all her hard earned money. The Truth that she was the only bread earner in the family and the biggest truth that she was trying to make a life even after seeing her only son brutally killed by goons. To add to her woes, her eye sight started getting blurred as a cataract had developed in one of her eyes.
She was not in a position to spend money on her treatment and had lost all hope of being able to see properly again. She was introduced to GVF through another NGO. A Trustee of GVF met her, got her condition evaluated by doctors and then arranged the logistics and provided the required support.
Her First Cataract Surgery was done in Dec 2016 and Abeena resumed work. When the cataract in her second eye got matured, GVF again got her treated, in Oct 2017.
She now runs a shop in Delhi selling chocolates, biscuits, confectionaries and savouries, along with her sister and spreading happiness amongst kids. She continues to inspire us with her ever smiling face and hopeful eyes.

“… Tanvi Ambedkar** is one of our patients and here is her story..”
She was 36 years old when she started losing her eye sight, but couldn’t attend to it as there were a lot of problems already going on, to a point where having 3 meals a day was a luxury. A few months later to make things worse her anal cord was blocked and it was very difficult for her to use the washroom.Due to this issue, the doctor prescribed a high dose of medicine which led to vision loss. She had to go through surgery (for anal cord) after which she lost her vision completely . She had to face many problems due to loss of vision. She had to leave her job and taking care of the house and her family was way more difficult. She would try to take care of her grandson (3year old) but it was very difficult for her and often made mistakes. For a while she had to continue with this situation until a kind stranger noticed this problem and got her in contact with our Foundation.
From then on things started improving. Her cataract surgery was planned, necessary support was provided till it took place and also post operative care till full recovery. Volunteers checked on her from time to time to make sure everything was fine. She is now 40 with a stable job, decent income, and a happy family.
This is just one of those few hundred patients who received support from the Foundation, because “kindness is the mark we leave on the world”.
